PLEASE READ.....The following is a statement compiled about the impact of recent changes in conformability of grooves on irons and wedges. Please read. If you do not intend to play USGA sanctioned events or one of the Professional Tours, there is no reason to be concerned about casual or club competitions.

For the rank-and-file players, the U-groove clubs have been grandfathered in for handicap play and amateur competitions at the local levels through 2024.

With the recent groove change, the USGA acknowledges its primary target: "The initial focus of the new rules will be competitions involving highly skilled professional golfers and will have little impact on the play of most golfers."

The timeline outlined below will summarize the manner in which the rule changes will be implemented:

2011 - All new irons and wedges required to be manufactured complying with the new groove design specifications
2010 - Players on the P.G.A. Tour and other top Tours around the world will be required to comply
2014 - Players competing in U.S.G.A. sanctioned events will be required to comply
2024 - All players desiring to post scores for handicapping purposes will be required to comply.
